Julie McPhee from Stilring Council had an idea to reduced food waste and tackle food poverty. Her idea for a community fridge, where excess and near-sell-by-date food could be collected and distributed for free, had previously fallen on deaf ears.

Through working with The Lens, we supported her to develop the idea into an investment-ready proposition. Julie said her Lens experience increased her confidence in public speaking, and gave her a platform for people to take notice.

All of this has resulted in the huge success of her idea. Stirling Community Food is now a invaluable community resource. Since the start of lockdown in March 2020, it has distributed over three hundred tonnes of food over the last 4 years - the equivalent of 450,054 meals, helping to relieve food poverty and increase health outcomes to those who need it most.
